... and The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2021 goes to:

Mr. Abdulrazak Gurnah

We keep saying it’s a small world.

And it is.

The very moment we grab our phones, we are connected to everyone, worldwide.

The very moment we feel and listen to the guidance of our soul, we know we are One.

In and with the world.

Following the pandemic, Romanians have been travelling to Zanzibar. A lot.

There must be charter flights leading there, even now, as we speak.

And I close my eyes and travel myself too, to Zanzibar.

And I am very much into starfish and the sea.

Zanzibar, Zanzibar, Zanzibar…

You used to be part of the Omani Sultanate, didn't you?

And Zanzibar, you are colorful.

Upon stumbling into the Nobel Prize-related piece of news, I smiled.

What a life coincidence!

Romanian citizens have been opting for Zanzibar as a traveling destination, more and more.

No sooner had I began writing this post than a gentleman, known our market in the field of tourism, shared a post on Facebook, reading something of this sort:

“Spend the Romanian National Day, the 1st of December, with me by the Seashore of Zanzibar.”

And it so happens that the Nobel laureate in Literature, this year, stems from the very heart of Zanzibar.

The announcement of the Nobel Prize reads:

"The Nobel Prize in Literature for 2021 is awarded to the novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah “for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents.

Gurnah was born in 1948 and grew up on the island of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean but arrived in England as a refugee at the end of the 1960s. He has published ten novels and a number of short stories. The theme of the refugee’s disruption runs throughout his work."

Cheers and congrats!
