To check quotes from a video interview transcript, use Damas to obtain the speech as editable text, then replay each candidate passage in the original video. Confirm the words, speaker and surrounding question before quoting. A transcript helps you locate material; your listening establishes whether a quotation is usable.
Prepare the source and transcript
Damas supports public, on-demand YouTube, Instagram and X video links up to 90 minutes. On iPhone, you need iOS 18.6 or later, internet, Premium and consent for AI processing. Only submit material you are authorized to process. Private, restricted, live or inaccessible sources are unsuitable; a public link does not guarantee successful processing.
- Open the interview on its original platform. Keep its link and title in your notes.
- Paste the supported link into Damas and use the transcription workflow, following the current app instructions and AI consent.
- Wait for processing, then read the transcript in its original language. Damas lets you edit and copy text.
- Select a passage relevant to your topic. Read the interviewer's question and the answer around it before deciding where the quotation begins and ends.
- Replay that passage in the source. Compare every word, including negatives, numbers, units and qualifications. Confirm who is speaking from the recording rather than guessing from adjacent paragraphs.
For the initial app workflow, see video link transcription.
Keep a quotation record you can audit
Fill in this manual checklist for each candidate. It is your working note, not an automatically generated Damas citation format:
- Source link and interview title.
- Speaker identity confirmed in the source; leave unresolved identities marked as uncertain.
- Interview question and topic in your own words.
- Candidate wording copied from the transcript, clearly marked as unverified until replayed.
- Exact wording checked against audio, retaining conditions and uncertainty.
- Context check: does the preceding or following answer change the apparent meaning?
- Decision: verified direct quotation, labeled paraphrase, or hold for review.
Do not silently improve grammar inside quotation marks. If you shorten a passage, make omissions visible and check that the shortened version retains the meaning. If two voices overlap or a crucial word remains inaudible, hold the quotation instead of filling the gap. An accurate quotation records what a person said; it does not prove the speaker's underlying claim is true.
Choose how to use the passage
Use quotation marks only for wording you have confirmed. Write a paraphrase without quotation marks when you are expressing the meaning in your own words. If you cannot establish the speaker or meaning, keep the passage out of the finished text until resolved. Never combine separate answers into a sentence that the speaker did not say.
For another language, use text translation to understand the passage, retain the original wording and label your translation. Have consequential wording checked by someone competent in both languages. A built-in summary can orient you to themes, but return to the full answer for a quotation.
Finish with the source attached
Copy the checked text from Damas into your draft and retain the source link with the quotation record. Recheck the final excerpt in context before sharing, within your reuse permissions. This workflow needs no external LLM; an LLM cannot replace listening to the source.
Processing time and accuracy vary with the source, audio and connection. Damas does not download media or process offline. If the recording becomes inaccessible, mark any unfinished checks as unresolved rather than treating generated text as verified evidence.
