To translate a YouTube video on iPhone with Damas, provide an eligible public video link and choose a target language in the translation workflow. Damas turns speech into translated text in one of 70 languages; supported public Instagram and X video links use the same workflow. Review the meaning against the source before relying on it.
Prepare a suitable link
The video must be public, available on demand and no longer than 90 minutes. Private, restricted and live content is not supported. Damas needs iOS 18.6 or later, internet access, Premium and consent for AI processing.
The app has 11 interface languages. That list is separate from the 70 translation languages: changing the interface is not the same task as choosing the language of your translated text.
Translate and read the result
- Copy the eligible video link from YouTube, Instagram or X.
- Open Damas on your iPhone and provide the link.
- Use the available translation workflow and select a supported target language.
- Review the AI processing consent and let the request finish. Processing time depends on the source, audio and connection.
- Read the translation. Where needed, return to the source or its transcript to check the meaning, then edit or copy your notes.
The current app provides the precise controls; this guide describes the task rather than promising a particular button label.
Keep context when crossing languages
Names, technical vocabulary, jokes and informal speech deserve extra attention. A smooth sentence can still lose a qualification or change the meaning of a number. Keep the source link with the translated notes, and ask a competent speaker to review consequential passages when necessary.
Use the translation to understand the content, then make a separate summary if you want a shorter overview. A summary omits detail, so retain the translation or transcript when that detail matters. Only reuse or share material you have permission to use.
